The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) offers the list of “10 Best Jobs Requiring Two-Year Degrees” through 2016 - written by Anthony Balderama of CareerBuilder.com for MSNBC. MCC offers programs in six of the top 10 jobs on the list: computer specialist (first), dental hygienist (second), registered nurse (fourth), surgical technologist and technician (sixth), certified paralegal (eighth) and computer support specialist (10th).

Other vocational career courses at MCC that ranked in the top 20 on the BLS list were medical assisting, pharmacy technology (certified), physical therapist assisting (certified), administration of justice (law enforcement) and those in culinary arts.

In addition, MCC offers dental assisting, chemical dependency studies, casino games dealing, emergency medical training, automotive service technology, automotive collision repair technology, construction technology, entrepreneurship and small business management, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, truck driver training, welding and fire science. Many of those jobs are in high demand throughout the Tri-state area.

“Our first responsibility is to the residents and businesses in Mohave County, and we strive to provide programs that prepare people for employment in high-demand fields in our region,” MCC President Michael Kearns said. “It is gratifying to know we are on target.”

Certificates of proficiency and associate of applied science degrees help students improve their existing work skills or to provide competencies for new careers. Of course, MCC also offers general education and transfer degrees for students who plan to transfer to a state university for a bachelor’s degree.
